Getting up for nothing Only seems to get you down You've had plenty of chances Plenty of dances In the wind and the rain On the garage forecourt, sweet While the sun comes up Over your little black street. Wake up at 4-ish And watch some DVDs Till the weather forecast On GMTV There is traffic on the road But on the train There's that view of the city Of the city, again. One day we will leave this I mean when the time is right There'll be some sort of promise On a good night And when the promise comes We will get away from this Out into a blue winter Of perpetual bliss. INSTRUMENTS: Acoustic electric guitar, acoustic guitar, acoustic electric slide guitar, 5 string 'G' banjo, bass drum, snare drum, hi hat cymbal, crash cymbal, sleigh bells, stylophone, sampler, 4 track tape recorder
2.
Another year is waving 'bye' to me Laughing loud in my face A starling sings an old Sinatra tune Only the lonely know this place For the stars will still be shining For so long after I'm gone There will be things to do Amusement parks and such In the lonesome land beyond The winter moon is melting slowly Like an ice cream into the ground Lovely trees all shining so nicely Singing choirs are all around For the stars will still be shining For so long after I'm gone There will be things to do Bowling alleys and such In the lonesome land beyond. INSTRUMENTS: Acoustic guitar, hollow body electric guitar, false baritone guitar, 'Fun Machine' electric organ, glockenspiel, dog bark (Penny), dog bark (Copper), Black Mountain Secret Inuit Choir

Frosted Over 02:52
Went up North, from the South, We had a big party at Karyn's house And I went there, cos I knew you were coming So I packed my bags and moved away Cos I liked it enough that I decided to stay I guess that was stupid, I guess some would say, i guess some would say That was a big mistake Because now you're gone It's all frosted over Like everything's gone wrong I've got to say it's the longest winter I never meant to be this way... But I'd do it all over again. (lost love stylophone solo) I've been for dinner a couple of times Jimmy's been drinking old bottles of wine And I'm up late, I'm up late again Work on my papers till I get fed up There's a fridge but I've Got no stuff for it, I don't care I guess I don't care enough I don't care. INSTRUMENTS: Ukulele, 5 string 'G' banjo, acoustic slide guitar, hollow body electric bass guitar, bass drum, snare drum, rimshot, high tom, stylophone, mobile telephone reception
4.
Go where you want to Do the things you feel Walk around with a broken leg And a hundred dollar bill Get yourself a pistol Get yourself a dog Stay up all night gettin drunk Sleepin in a hollow log Walk till you're restless Sleep till you're tired Wake up without thinking You're the one that I desire INSTRUMENTS: Acoustic guitar, acoustic slide guitar, dog bark (Copper)

about

In 2007 I wrote 3 winter themed songs and covered Beck's 'Hollow Log', then I made little cd cases with birds on and a lyrics book and gave them away as presents. So, for the very first time on the internet here it is in all its wintery glory!

Dedicated to the banjo players of the world. And the dog walkers. And campers. And lumberjacks. For the Black Bears, the Brown Bears and the Polar Bears. For the stray dogs and the dead cats. I wish to thank the old men in caps. I wish to remember those who must drive in the dirt, on the wrong side of the road, because the truck they are overtaking is too wide. For those who play steel guitar at their window. For those who take notes and wear Gore-Tex jackets. And those who wear plaid shirts. And those who listen to Radio Ulster in the daytime. And those who are happy with their lot. This music supports the classroom assistant strike. Thank you for paying attention.
